A cigar lighter is capable of far more than simply lighting up your cigar. It can impact the way your cigar burns as well as its flavor. That’s why selecting the right lighter is essential for having the complete cigar-smoking experience. To help you decide which cigar lighter you should choose, consider:

  • The type of flame you want
  • Reliability and build quality
  • Ease of use
  • Price range

As is the case with cigar cutters and cigar ashtrays, when it comes to cigar lighters, you have plenty of options to choose from. Below, we’ll introduce you to some of the most popular ones and provide you with a brief overview of each one.

Soft Flame Lighters

Soft flame cigar lighters burn much slower compared to torch flame lighters. The benefit of using such a lighter is that it gives an even toast to your cigar foot. The downside to choosing this type of cigar, however, is that it can only really be used indoors.

Torch Flame Lighters

A torch cigar lighter is the go-to choice for most cigar enthusiasts. This type of lighter can light your cigar much quicker and more thoroughly compared to soft flame lighters. Be careful though. If you’re not paying attention when using cigar torch lighters, the super-hot torch flame may scorch or char your cigar.

Windproof Lighters

As the name suggests, windproof lighters are designed for outdoor use, when the weather isn’t particularly lighter-friendly. This type of lighter often has a protective cap, which is designed to shield the flame from the wind.

Multi-Function Lighters

If you’re looking for a lighter that will allow you to enjoy your cigars anywhere, regardless of the weather conditions, you should consider a multi-functional cigar lighter. This type of lighter usually has a switch, which allows you to change between a soft and a torch flame.

Cigar lighters can be powered by a variety of different fuel sources, including butane, propane, soft flame liquid, and petroleum, to name a few. The fuel type you’ll need will depend on your cigar lighter.

Most cigar enthusiasts prefer to use a butane cigar lighter as it offers a clean burn that doesn’t affect the flavor of your cigar. Butane refill is also pretty affordable and easy to use.
